Electronic point of sale is a system generally used in a retail environment that utilises barcode technology through scanning products at the point of sale systems which is usually a cash till & point of sale displays, this information is then stored on a store computer. The price of the item or service scanned is sent from the computer to the till system. The computer then tells the store that the product has been purchased and removes it from the detailed stock levels. The customer generally receives a receipt from the receipt printer as proof of purchase.
This system provides real time stock control and gives the owner precise information on turnover. It will also provide information on most popular stock & many other financial indicators.
EPOS is found in almost all retail environments that include restaurants and shopping centres. This system is designed to give businesses complete control in recording transactions, processing payments and storage of customer records by utilising pont of sale hardware and software.
